Hey, we aren't a Lead Certified building, but that doesn't mean we
can't help the world.
Our new building was designed for energy efficiency. We used a
solid steel and concrete construction which will last a century or
more with care, reducing waste by allowing us to reconfigure the
building internally using fewer natural resources.
We have triple layered walls, brick on the outside, a ventilation
space, an exterior wall, insulation and then an interior wall
sandwiching a steel frame structure. All windows are double paned
an use high efficiency low-e glass which dramatically reduces the
cooling costs of the building. The same structure coupled with
extensive dead air space in the ceilings, and 8 inch thick roof
insulation reduce heating costs. There are over 20 difference
heating zones, with air circulation, and all heating and cooling on
timers to program for maximum efficiency.
On the inside, we have all fluorescent lighting which further makes
the building more efficient.
One of the biggest things we can do to help is reduce paper waste.
As you know paper waste in medical records is a killer. Multiple
copies, faxes all consume valuable resources. We are implementing
a new Electronic "Patient Relationship Program" which manages not
only the chart notes, but all the communications between and about
patients. We are one of the first centers in Oregon to use this
exciting product, which is based on very modern technology and will
be around for a long time to come. It will integrate to the Practice
management system we already use, making the staged
implementation to other physicians possible.
We have put in a modern all digital X ray and CT scanner, and will
reduce paper wasted in the DXA scanner soon.
We are only buying Energy Star rated computers and servers, and
we have planted a tree for every computer in the building...
We have recycling bins available throughout the building.
We are trying, please help us by learning what you can do to help.
